CSR Goals

Goal 1 To improve the lives of people living within our communities
Target
  • Undertake community initiatives in every community where we work
  • To help through “hands on” support from Mears staff (50% + participation)
  • To help residents to help themselves (resident engagement in 30% of projects undertaken)
  • To develop stronger working links with our clients (client engagement in 30% of projects undertaken)
  • Evaluate 100% of projects undertaken
 
Goal 2 To reduce prejudice and improve understanding of differences within our diverse communities
Target
  • Undertake community initiatives in every community where we work, which bring together different parts of the community
  • Customer satisfaction of 90%+ amongst all key community groups
  • Ethnicity of Mears employees to match the demographics of where we are working
  • Percentage of women in Mears management positions to grow each year for the next 5 years 
  • To grow the percentage of female operatives each year for the next 5 years
  • No valid discrimination cases
  • Evaluate 100% of projects undertaken
 
Goal 3 To provide skills development and career opportunities to those needing them the most
Target
  • Undertake community initiatives in every community where we work, which increase opportunities for local people to develop new skills 
  • Measure the number of Mears employees that live within the communities where we work by July 2009  
  • Set and meet target for every branch offering work placements 
  • Set and meet target for every branch offering apprentice/trainee placements
  • Set and meet target for every branch offering resident training days
  • Evaluate 100% of projects undertaken
Goal 4 To be a positive contributor to the environment
Target
  • Undertake community initiatives in every community where we work, which improve local environmental quality 
  • Continue to develop awareness of Getting Greener Campaign with one Eco Champion active in every branch 
  • Achieve recycling levels of 80% 
  • Achieve greater accuracy in measuring our carbon footprint by the end of 2009 
  • Determine and implement effective carbon reduction strategies by July 2009 
  • After reduction, offset our carbon emissions 
  • Improve the energy efficiency of homes in every community that we work in 
  • Ensure that we continue to source 100% of FSC approved timber from our preferred suppliers
  • Reduce the impact of our fleet by re-evaluating the types of vehicles used by staff and reducing mileage
  • Evaluate 100% of projects undertaken
