Where we can locate segregated containers and separate waste streams on site - such as at our Welwyn Hatfield operation - we can achieve recycling levels in excess of 90%.
Similar figures are also being reached in other parts of the country.
When we at Mears say we care about the environment we really mean it.
For many years we have been going beyond our statutory requirements to minimise the impact our operations have on the environment whilst improving the lives of our residents.
We have examined every area of what we do to see where we can reduce our carbon footprint and through this process, have developed new ways of working which produce less waste and fewer Co2 emissions.
The result has led to more efficient work practices with the added benefit of cost savings for all our stakeholders. Mears is now ISO 14001 compliant across all its operations.
But we are constantly striving to go further. We recycle more than 90% of our waste in some areas and plans to utilise Bio-Mass fuel technologies will see this increased even further, while transforming our waste into electricity for the National Grid.
