Local Leeds charity, Touchstone that provides health and well-being services to marginalised groups across Yorkshire recently benefitted from refurbishment and upgrade works by Mears Group.

Their base at Boston Towers, Lincoln Green, Leeds, required refurbishment after many years of use and recent upgrades to the heating system in the property.

Mears, one of the leading housing and care providers in the UK, was approached by Leeds City Council to see how they could help the charity.

Mears was happy to support the project and agreed to fully upgrade the kitchen and bathroom as well as redecorate the entire property.

Eight Mears employees took part in the initiative, and it was completed in time for Touchstone to move in.

Darren DeSouza, Prevention & Community Development Manager at Touchstone said:

I have to say a massive thank you to Mears and Leeds City Council for getting this work done. Boston Towers is based in one of the most socially deprived areas of Leeds and this property has been used for years, without much investment. It is a vital location for us to increase our opportunities to engage with the local communities in the area. Thanks to Mears’ hard work, we can start again and use these facilities for a variety of activities. As well as being a base for our Prevention and Community Development services, we will now be able to use the communal area to provide a number of activities for local residents, making sure they can access the services they need but also allowing us to play a vital role in combating social isolation, inspiring a sense of community and bringing people from very different walks of life together. With Mears’ help, we can truly make a difference now when we engage with the local residents.

Helen Thompson, Customer & Community Manager, Mears said:

It is important as an organisation that we give back as much as we can to the communities that we work in. Whilst installing a new kitchen and bathroom or providing a lick of paint may not seem much, ensuring that Touchstone and the local communities have good, suitable facilities as a base will give a real sense of pride to both.Touchstone and the local residents. This is the start of the working relationship between Mears and Touchstone, and by working together, we both hope to bring even more positive opportunities to the residents in Leeds.
