Mears Group has helped create a new wellbeing hub, designed for parents and carers of children with additional support needs in North Lanarkshire.
The PlayPeace Pod has transformed an unused mezzanine at PlayPeace, a parent-led charity supporting families in the area, into a welcoming space where parents and carers can meet, connect and access informal peer support.
Mears brought partners together around the shared goal, coordinating contributions including furniture, materials and professional services. Support was provided by Furnished Homes and Millbank Decorators, alongside a Mears Foundation donation of furniture and soft furnishings specifically for the space.
The PlayPeace Pod is expected to benefit more than 100 families, helping to reduce social isolation by giving parents and carers the opportunity to build friendships, share experiences and connect with others in similar situations.
Donna Quinn, Development Worker for the Carer Breather Project said: "We are truly grateful to Mears for funding the creation of this dedicated space for the parents and carers we support. What was once an empty, unused area is now a calm and welcoming place where parents and carers can meet, connect, access support and simply take some time for themselves. We're already seeing the positive impact of the space, and it's wonderful to see our vision become a reality."
Claire Foden, Social Value Business Partner at Mears Group, said: “We’re proud to have supported this project and helped bring the PlayPeace Pod to life. It shows how working together can create meaningful social value and make a lasting difference to families in the local community.”
As part of its social value commitment, Mears Group provides all employees with two days a year to volunteer for good causes that benefit local communities.
