Mears Home Improvement Service in Welwyn and Hatfield works in partnership with, and is commissioned by, Welwyn and Hatfield Borough Council. Financial help may be available to assist with essential repairs or adaptations for home owners or private tenants. Our primary goal is to help you retain your independence at home.
For most people being able to remain living in their own home for as long as possible is of the utmost importance. We can help you if you need adaptations to your home that will make living there easier. Our comprehensive service provides help and guidance throughout the process. From advice on the availability of grants or other funding options, working with occupational therapists, drawing up the plans for any works you need, appointing trusted contractors to undertake the work and ensuring that it is completed to the right standard, we will manage the process for you from start to finish.
Adaptations work can include:
- Level access showers/wet rooms
- Stairlifts, ramps and steps
- Kitchen design and refits
- Garage conversions, extensions,
Repairs and Home Improvements
We can also help with home improvements and can undertake work to make the home more energy efficient, making plumbing and electrical improvements or repairs, roof maintenance work and even kitchen and bathroom installations.
Our Technical Officers can carry out a survey to assess what work may be required to ensure that you are safe and secure in your own home and our caseworker can see if you are eligible for grant or loan from the local authority to get works carried out.
For both large renovation work and for small repairs, grants and loans may be available from the Council. Eligibility is subject to a financial assessment. Please contact our caseworker for further information.
