A responsible partner

Responsible Business Charters

Mears wants to be the best possible partner for the UK and Scottish Governments, local councils, for people who live or work in any of our branches and communities we operate in.

Mears Group's Responsible Business Charters

The Charter is a values-led partnership between Government and business based on boosting productivity and competitiveness through fairness, equality and sustainable employment.

Mears aims to be regarded as the most trusted and respected provider of housing with care solutions and we want to make sure we get our business pledges right.

Our Charter commitments include:

  • All employees are paid the Real Living Wage or above, and should seek to include fair work principles in their operations.
  • Including resident and tenant representation as part of our scrutiny arrangements and service design.
  • Committing to improving the Environmental, Social, Governance and economic wellbeing of the areas we operate in. Especially those communities that have not had the levels of support others have had.
  • Committing to paying small businesses on time.
  • Making it simple, straightforward and easy for local Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs), social enterprises and supported businesses to access supply chains opportunities.
  • Making firm and achievable commitments to support national target of Net-zero emissions by 2050.
  • Having the social responsibility to pass on skills to local communities and to take inclusive approaches to all workforce matters.
  • Being transparent in our Financial and Business reporting.
  • Making every effort to make our organisation a great place to work.
  • Working harder to address equality and diversity and submitting to independent audit of all policies and procedures to enable fair access for all.
  • Having a balanced Board to broaden the range of perspectives and expertise, and ultimately benefit the services and clients we seek to support.
  • Demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.
