Mears Group has been awarded a major new 10-year partnership with Birmingham City Council to deliver repairs, maintenance, and planned investment work across 11,500 homes in central and west Birmingham. This contract represents one of our most significant projects in the city and will create a wide range of opportunities across our operational teams.

About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced Scaffolding Supervisor to oversee the effective delivery of scaffolding activities on our Birmingham contract, ensuring compliance with internal procedures, health and safety regulations, and quality standards. You will work closely with the client, providing scaffolding expertise, support and guidance when required. The role involves managing job scheduling, coordinating scaffold erection, alteration and dismantling, and supervising a team of operatives along with subcontractors. You will be responsible for monitoring work progress through regular site visits, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the required standard. The successful candidate will compile operational reports, uphold Mears’ values and procedures, and maintain a strong focus on customer satisfaction. You will also manage employee performance, support development through coaching and training, and ensure all company assets including vehicles, tools, and PPE are properly maintained. Flexibility to support other supervisors, attend meetings, and participate in training sessions is essential.

Duties:

  • Oversee the delivery of scaffolding works across planned and reactive maintenance contracts
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures, health and safety regulations, and industry standards (including TG20)
  • Supervise a team of scaffolders and manage subcontractors as required
  • Monitor work progress through regular site visits, ensuring safe, timely completion and high standards
  • Manage job scheduling and ensure effective planning and resource allocation
  • Ensure all scaffolding equipment is inspected, maintained and fit for purpose
  • Provide scaffolding expertise, support and technical advice to clients and internal teams
  • Compile operational reports and contribute to performance reviews and audits
  • Uphold company values and maintain a strong focus on customer satisfaction
  • Support employee development through coaching, mentoring and training
  • Manage company assets including vehicles, tools, PPE and scaffold materials
  • Attend client meetings, toolbox talks and internal training sessions
  • Collaborate with other supervisors to ensure smooth contract delivery
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant legislation, standards and best practice
  • Maintain accurate records of scaffold inspections, handovers and completed works
  • Respond to emergency callouts and support out-of-hours service delivery

Role Criteria:

  • CISRS Supervisor (SSSTS) or Advanced Scaffolder qualification
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Scaffolding (or equivalent qualification)
  • CISRS card
  • Strong knowledge of scaffold inspection standards and compliance (e.g. TG20, SG4)
  • Extensive experience in scaffolding within social housing, construction or maintenance environments
  • Full UK driving licence
