Thanks to funding from The Mears Foundation, the charitable arm of the Mears Group, schools in Yorkshire will benefit from brand-new sports programmes developed by ex-professional rugby league and union player, Jason Robinson OBE.
Led by expert coaches, the programmes are already reaching over 50 schools across the county with the aim to inspire every child, no matter their sporting ability.
Through partnering with The Mears Foundation, The Jason Robinson Foundation (JRF) is now looking to extend this impact. Founder, Jason Robinson OBE, explained:
“Each of our programmes are shaped around the school’s needs, with a focus on supporting children’s physical health and mental wellbeing, by encouraging teamwork through the power of shared achievement.
“Partners like The Mears Foundation are helping us to make an impact to as many schools, and change as many children’s lives, as possible.”
The partnership will see golf programmes introduced to partner schools to enable children to experience a different sport, many for the first time. Funds will be used to purchase starter equipment and support expert coaching, impacting more young lives.
Jason Robinson added:
“Some people may ask why golf? To that I’d say, why not? It’s about giving children the opportunity to try new things that they may not usually get to experience.
“Although my own journey started through rugby, we are all different and you never know where an opportunity like this could lead.”
Heather Tyrer, General Manager of the Mears Foundation, said:
“The JRF share our commitment to giving children the opportunity to get outside, start to work as a team and engage in a sport they may not have tried before.
“I’m really pleased to announce this partnership and look forward to the positive impact that we can make together.”
