Mears Group’s ongoing commitment to creating opportunity for all has been recognised in this year’s Social Mobility Employer Index, where the company has been ranked 32 out of 140 organisations.

The annual index is the UK’s leading benchmark of how employers are improving social mobility in the workplace. It measures the actions companies take to ensure that a person’s background does not define their future, from recruitment and apprenticeships to progression and outreach.

This year’s result builds on Mears’ strong track record of driving inclusion and creating meaningful pathways into employment. The company has long championed apprenticeships and early careers programmes, with hundreds of young people gaining opportunities to learn and grow in trades, care, and business roles across the UK.

Mear’s approach to recruitment and selection, including monitoring diversity within the recruitment pipeline, work on pay, progression, retention, culture and internal advocacy played a key role in this year’s ranking, with the Group praised for measuring our class gap and having a good approach to collecting and utilising data.

This latest recognition follows Mears’ success at the UK Social Mobility Awards 2025, where the Group was named Organisation of the Year and Deputy Employee Director, Liam Wilkinson was awarded Mentor of the Year.

Together, these achievements highlight the scale and depth of Mears’ commitment to creating genuine career opportunities for people from all backgrounds.

Jo Fry, Group HR Director said:

At Mears, we believe talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. That’s why we’re passionate about building a culture where everyone can succeed, no matter their background. From apprenticeships to leadership development, we are determined to make Mears a place where potential can thrive.

The recognition in the Social Mobility Index demonstrates Mears’ commitment to embedding fairness, diversity, and inclusion across every part of the business.

By creating pathways for people from all walks of life, Mears is not only shaping a more inclusive workforce but also strengthening the communities in which it operates.
