Car wash fundraiser for local Youth Centre

Stewarts Road Adventure Playground and Youth Centre in Lambeth teamed up with local repairs and maintenance provider Mears last week, for a Car Wash charity day to support their plans to take children from their youth club on a residential trip to Hindleap Warren Outdoor Education Centre in East Sussex. The lottery funded charity aims to provide a safe and caring community for local youngsters in the area. Based on Stewarts Road in Lambeth, the Centre is situated behind the Mears branch that carries out repairs to homes on behalf of Lambeth Living. In addition to a donation from Mears for the much needed summer trip for the local youngsters, Mears also arranged for two of their apprentices to donate their time and services to carry out some small repairs to the facilities at Stewarts Road - jobs such as installation of stair treads leading up to the centre's renovation project, and tap repairs were amongst the additional support that Mears was able to provide on the day.Fundraising efforts were not all about getting hands dirty (and cars clean!), there were cake stalls too with baking done by the children who attend the centre, which helped contribute to a hugely successful £259.32 raised for the charity.Caroline Peacock, Mears Branch Manager said "We were delighted to support and participate in the fundraising day for the Stewarts Road Adventure playground. Supporting our local communityand improving the lives of the families that we provide a service to is an important part of our ethos and it was great for the youngsters from the centre to see our apprentices put to work to improve the club house facilities.Andrew Russell, Centre Manager said "We're very grateful to Mears for all their support on the day. The weather was challenging, however it has really enthused the children and young people to do something similar again."
