Children's summer brightened up Mears

Local Gosport children's gardening club are delighted after receiving a helping hand in creating perfectly pruned garden plots in the Rownham's estate. Refreshments and plants were donated alongside a garden design competition which made the Neighbourhood day a special celebration for the green fingered residents.

Mears, who repair and maintain homes on behalf of Home Group regularly support the landlord's Neighbourhood day but this one was more than the usual handyperson and tidy up. After clearing and rotovating two large patches on the estate, Mears organised a design competition for the children prior to the day, with Cerys Thompson winning with her colourful design. Cerys received a voucher for coming up trumps and her plan was brought to life by the gardening club who are all focused on brightening up the estate. Mears donated shrubs, plants and trees to help get the children started on their long term project.

David Waller, Home Group customer service partner, said: "Home Group's customer promise states that we'll give customers a decent home and reliable services. Neighbourhood days help us keep this promise by keeping developments tidy and completing repairs.

"An event like this is a great way to inspire the local community to work together and we're very grateful to Mears for their hard work clearing the plots ready for our gardening club. The children have really enjoyed the gardening competition and we're really looking forward to seeing the new plot when it's finished."

Stephen Hyatt, Partnership Manager Mears said "It's great to see the impact of this Neighbourhood day, we are committed to supporting the communities in which we work and are delighted that the local children enjoyed planting  the new garden with our help"
