Mears marathon runner raises vital funds for Spinal Research

Wayne Dale, 39, from Thurrock, Essex, completed the London Marathon in 4 hours, 6 minutes and 33 seconds.

Wayne, a plumber who has worked for Mears in Thurrock for eight years raised £1,800 for Spinal Research. Spinal Research is the UK's leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop reliable treatments for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury.

Mears staff based in Thurrock also supported Wayne's efforts by completing their own mini marathon. This involved running around the lakeside grounds and they raised over £50 in donations.

Wayne said:" I decided to run the marathon in memory of a colleague I worked with at Mears who passed away. It was a real challenge as although I ran the London Marathon when I was 18 I have not done one since. I trained three to four times a week and I'm really pleased with my time as I managed to run it faster time than the average which is 4 hours and 20 minutes."
