Mears shortlisted as finalist for the 2013 Sustainable Housing Awards

Mears has been shortlisted in the Sustainability social housing contractor of the year category of The Sustainable Housing Awards 2013, organised by Inside Housing magazine and its sister publication Sustainable Housing.

These awards put the spotlight on the best green social housing projects constructed in the UK, and the organisations responsible for them. The trophies will be presented at a ceremony hosted by the award winning stand-up comedian, TV and radio regular Josie Long on Friday 18 October at the Lancaster London Hotel.

Jess McCabe, Editor of Sustainable Housing magazine, said: 'Now in their sixth year, the Sustainable Housing awards 2013 have, once again, been inundated with entries from the leading organisations featuring the most innovative and impressive projects in the UK. It is a brilliant achievement for Mears to be shortlisted in the face of such fierce competition. We are thrilled to be able to host the awards ceremony that recognises the work of the housing sector's sustainable pioneers.'

Matt Lucas, Mears Energy Director said 'Mears are very proud to have been nominated for this prestigious award. The recognition in being short-listed is a testament to the combined daily efforts of our people, clients and partners alike. We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and with further national initiatives that now recycle and waste less, Mears will ensure it remains at the forefront of the low carbon economy.'

Last year nearly 600 people attended the event, which was hosted by author, adventurer and national institution Brian Blessed, in 2011 it was actor and environmental campaigner Marcus Brigstocke, in 2010 Mark Watson, and in 2009 Jon Snow was the master of ceremonies.

The sponsors of the awards include: Breyer Group, H + H, Higgins, NHBC, Profile 22, Rockwool, Sustainable Homes, United House and Wates Living Space.
