Working with Leeds Rhino’s to improve lives through sport

Leeds Rhinos have said they are delighted with Mears’ continued support as the women’s team revealed their first kit of the season, complete with the Mears’ logo emblazoned across the blue shirts.

Mears is the main sponsor for the team who will be competing for the first time in the Women’s Super League in 2018. We share the Rhino’s commitment to improving lives in their local community and to increase the number of women represented in a traditionally male dominated sector: In Rugby, 93 per cent of the 95,000 people who play the game are male; while recent figures revealed that women make up less than 1 per cent of the manual workforce in the construction sector.

The money provided by Mears helps the team’s charitable foundation to grow the game and offer opportunities for women from all backgrounds to play Rugby League.

Leon Crick, Rugby League Development Manager for the Foundation, said he was delighted that Mears continued to support the team. He said: “Their (Mears) support of Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Rugby League Development Plan over the last four years has enabled us to grow and develop the game in Leeds, and we now have a fantastic opportunity to drive the women’s game forward by providing a clear pathway into the elite level of the sport.”

Andy Wilson, Mears’ Director for Leeds, said: “Leeds Rhinos and Mears have worked closely together for a number of years to improve lives in Leeds through sport. Our continued support and involvement with the Rugby is consistent with our aim of empowering and encouraging women to take up careers in areas that they may not have previously considered.”
