Contract synopsis

We are currently providing three extra care schemes for Cambridge County Council. These include Bircham House, Williowbank and Willow Court. These housing schemes allow residents over 55 to live in a selfcontained flat, with their own front door and 24/7 support. Each location has a range of great on-site facilities available to all residents, including a large communal lounge, laundry room, a guest room for visiting friends and family, and gardens with seating areas, perfect for socialising with others and helping wellbeing. They are also purpose-built with wheelchair accessible throughout and includes lifts to all floors.

All apartments are fitted with a 24-hour emergency call and secure door entry system, which allows us to keep service users safe and supported even through unsociable hours.

Overall, we are providing our extra care scheme to:

  • 30 flats at Bircham House in partnership with Sanctuary Housing
  • 34 flats at Willowbank in partnership with Anchor Housing
  • 60 flats at Willow Court in partnership with Longhurst Housing

What are we doing?

The aim of the schemes is to allow older people to live independently in their own homes and have access to a range of support, such as 24/7 care and community events. We’re proud to offer care services that are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) including:

  • Washing, dressing, bathing, personal care and hygiene
  • Getting in and out of bed
  • Food preparation
  • Medication assistance
  • Laundry and domestic services
  • Social inclusion
  • Housing support
  • One-to-one support

What are the outcomes?

Through these care schemes we ensure service users are cared for to an exceptional standard and get a good life balance and wellbeing support. We do this by providing dedicated care services and organising various activities throughout the year. These activities enable them to meet other people, feel part of something special and helps with loneliness. Some of these activities include bingo, quizzes, book clubs, live bands, fitness sessions and much more.

"I have lived at Bircham House for six years. I love having my own front door and little flat. The Mears Extra Care staff have only been with us for a few months and they are amazing! We have lovely carers and the management team are friendly and always ask how we are. My care calls are great - I’m well looked after. Living at Bircham House allows me to be independent but still have support there if I need it which is so reassuring for me and my family."
