Mears has been contracted to help secure accommodation for Service Users who worked with the British Military during the occupation of Afghanistan. These Service Users are now displaced and are awaiting entry to the UK under indefinite leave to remain.
The Afghan Relocation and Assistance Policy (ARAP) is intended to ensure that Service Users have a safe, quality home with localised support that assists with their introduction to the UK and its institutions (e.g. schools, healthcare and employment). Mears will be providing an in-house service to ensure arriving individuals and families are welcomed, orientated into their new home, and have the support in place to settle into their new lives in the UK.
Our aim is to provide quality homes and the support services that people need to settle into the communities where they live.
What Mears will do:
- Mears will pay a guaranteed rent each month
- Three-year term with mutual six-month break
- Unlimited deposit indemnity
- Council tax, water and utilities will be transferred to the Occupants by Mears
- Repair any Service User damage
What the Landlord will do:
As a landlord you will be responsible for maintaining certification and statutory compliance including Energy Performance, EICR and the initial Gas Safety. As a landlord you will retain the obligation to repair the property.
What types of properties are we looking for?
We are particularly interested in properties with five to nine beds. We also have some interest in one to two bed properties.

How much rent will you get?
The amount of rent we can pay you each month will depend on a number of factors, including:
- The size of your property
- Where it is
- The local market rates
