Golf day raises £1,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children

On Sunday 6 April, 12 Mears Southwark employees and three team members from Galmart and Partnering One took part in a charity golf day at Shoreham Golf Club in Kent. The event raised £1,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. A cheque was presented to Becky Harrison by Bob Granville, Partnership Manager and Grant Healey, Supervisor Mears Southwark.The event was the brainchild of Grant Healey who said: “It was a fantastic day and everyone really enjoyed themselves. We decided we wanted to fundraise for Great Ormond Street because of the work they do, the support they give both the children and their families is incredible.”The overall winner of the day was Chris Cruickshanks with a score of 85, the winner of the longest drive was Steve Edwards from Galmart and Paul Leslie, Mears Glazing Supervisor won the nearest pin competition. There was also a raffle with the prize of a drill kindly donated by Travis Perkins, Peckham, which was won by Peter Whitfield, Mears Electrical.The £1,000 was raised by the generous support of Galmart, Partnering One and Miranda Double Glazing donating £360, a further £150 was raised by the golfers and the raffle raising an amazing £490.There was an overall winner’s trophy, trophies for the longest drive and nearest pin were donated by Mears Operatives Roland Parfitt and Chris Cruickshanks with Workmates Agency providing champagne for all the winners.After the success of the first golf day Grant is planning another one on 24 August, all proceeds will go to Macmillan Cancer Support. Grant has started to collect raffle prizes and so far has 15 out of 18 holes of the golf course sponsored by other businesses.Grant continued: “We’ve got off to a fantastic start for out next fundraising day as the sponsorship of the holes has already raised £1,500. We have been collecting raffle prizes and our star prize will be a signed Chelsea FC shirt. We hope to raise over £2,500 for Macmillan, they are a fantastic charity who provide advice and support to people living with cancer.”If you would like further information about the golf day in August please email grant.healey@mearsgroup.co.uk
