Kinlochleven Football Club and Portree Football Club on the Isle of Skye have each received a Mears Foundation sports grant to help cover pitch let fees and buy essential training equipment. The funding will enable the clubs to continue offering inclusive football opportunities for people of all ages in their local areas.
The Mears Foundation is the charitable arm of Mears Group that works with local authorities across the UK. The Foundation supports projects that promote health, wellbeing, and inclusion—particularly in communities where Mears operates.
Support for the clubs’ successful applications came from the Mears Facilities Management team working in Highland schools, who guided the clubs through the grant process.
Mathew Prosser, Chair of Kinlochleven Football Club, said:
Without the support of the Mears Foundation and the incredible help from the Mears FM team, the future of our club would have undoubtedly been bleak. On behalf of myself and the entire football community in Kinlochleven. I would like to thank everyone involved in helping us secure this grant—especially the Mears Foundation. Without your support, our club might not be here today.
Patrick Macinnes, Facilities Supervisor, Mears Group, added:
This funding will make a real difference to the club and the young players who rely on it. We’re proud to support grassroots football and help create opportunities for people in our local communities. It reflects the wider commitment of Mears Group to social value and reinvesting in the places where we live and work.
Both clubs continue to provide important access to sport and community connection in rural areas, with the new equipment already in use during training sessions. For more information about the Mears Foundation, visit The Mears Foundation.
