Kingsthorpe residents celebrate opening of extra care development

Kingsthorpe residents of recently opened extra care home Balmoral Place Mears were treated to a plentiful supply of cakes; big band swing and a Mayoral ribbon cutting.

Balmoral place is a new development which provides affordable housing and care for people over 55 years old in Northampton. It offers local older residents high quality accommodation with the peace of mind of a 24/7 onsite care team enabling people to live independently in their own homes. The flats are available for all – including those on social rent.

The development which includes 80 spacious flats, includes accommodation for family members who want to come and visit; a new kitchen and restaurant for residents and even an on-site hairdresser.

Sian Davenport of Mears Care commented:

“Mears have seen first-hand just how positive good quality housing with care can be for older people. We know that the offer not only improves people's emotional and social wellbeing, reduces care need and reduces loneliness but also reduces costs to local and national health services.”

“At Balmoral Place we are proud to be working partnership with the local councils and the clinical commissioning group to discharge older people from hospital more quickly and safely through the specialist step down services at the scheme.

“We also want the people of Northampton to use Balmoral Place as a new community asset to be used by local community and voluntary groups, such as the Rainbows who recently attended a gardening session with the residents.”

Naz Choudary, the new Mayor of Northampton was on hand to open the centre. He commented:

“This is a great facility for residents. Having been shown around I can see that every effort has been made to make these homes comfortable whatever someone’s care needs.”

“Having sat on the planning committee which granted planning permission to Balmoral Place it is particularly pleasing to see these plans come to fruition.”

Katie Arlow, the Service Manager for Balmoral Place said:

“Thank you to the Mayor and Cllr Jonathan Nunn for coming along to support us. The tenants had a lovely afternoon I thought it was an extremely rewarding and successful event. They are looking forward to adding lots of pics to the new notice board!”
