Mears Care Carlisle passes inspection with flying colours

Mears, a leading provider of home care and support services to over 150 people living in Carlisle has been awarded full marks by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the body that inspects and regulates care services in England.

In a routine inspection, the CQC assessed the local team of over 80 care workers providing home care services, rehabilitation care and supported living to people of all ages and abilities and found that they were providing a high level of individual care. The inspectors focused on five of the essential standards and found that people were happy with the care they received. Mears is providing care to meet the personal, emotional and healthcare needs of people who use the service.

One person who used the service said: "100% absolutely brilliant, always on time, courteous and professional."

Mears received full marks in five essential standards categories. It was noted that they had comprehensive assessments in place for identifying people's needs, health issues and their likes and dislikes. Care plans were created with service users, were up to date and well thought out. One staff member told the inspectors that they treated people the way they thought their own grandmother would like to be treated.

The report highlighted that Mears is excellent at working with others and referring people to suitable care providers as their needs change and develop. The inspectors found that people are supported by highly skilled and knowledgeable staff and that there were rigorous safeguarding policies in place. There are also systems in place to assess and monitor the quality of service provision and deal with feedback.

Another service user said: "They're grand!" and added, "They are much better than other agencies, they're top of the list!"

Jackie Treleven, Business Manager Mears (Cumbria), said: "Our care workers work so hard in our community to ensure the highest quality of care for people in and around Carlisle. Supporting people in their own homes to lead independent lives is our priority and we are delighted to have passed this assessment with top marks, which is a testament to our staff."
