Mears Care Rossendale passes CQC inspection with flying colours

Mears, a leading provider of home care and support services to over 350 people living in Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley, Rochdale, East Lancashire and Bolton has been awarded full marks by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the body that inspects and regulates care services in England.In an unannounced inspection, the CQC assessed the local team of 140 care workers providing home care services and crisis support to people of all ages and abilities and found that they were providing a high level of individual care. The inspectors focused on five of the essential standards and found that people were happy with the care they received. Mears is providing care to meet the personal, emotional and healthcare needs of people who use the service.Mears received full marks in five essential standards categories. It was noted that staff respected people’s wishes and clients felt safe and well cared for. They also receive good quality support that was responsive to their changing needs. People could be sure of receiving good, consistent support to promote their welfare and are involved in creating their own care plans.One person who used the service said: "I do a lot for myself and they help me. They have a job to do and they do it well. The standard of work they do is excellent and I'm in my own home. The girls are very polite and caring. They don't take over and that's good."The report found that Mears has systems in place to assess and monitor the quality of service provision and deal with feedback. Quality assurance systems and records clearly identified any shortfalls which were addressed promptly.Another service user said: "It's nice for people to be in their own home. That's where you want to be, especially at my age and with this type of service it's possible. I love the carers visiting. They are very trustworthy and I feel very safe with them".The inspectors found that people are supported by highly skilled and knowledgeable staff who receive ongoing training and support from Mears. Service users and their families were interviewed and provided overwhelmingly positive feedback about the level and quality of home care they received.Alison Pressler, Manager of Mears Care Rossendale, said: “Our care workers work so hard in our community to ensure the highest quality of care for people in Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley, Rochdale, East Lancashire and Bolton. Supporting people in their own homes to lead independent lives is our priority and we are delighted to have passed this assessment with flying colours, which is a testament to our staff.”
