Mears North Lanarkshire help redecorate church

Mears Painter Derek Ross and Apprentice Painter Scott CarruthersMears North Lanarkshire received a request for help from Mr Stanley Cook, Session Clerk of the McDonald Memorial Church. The church is the heart of the community and over time it had become very tired. Mr Cook hoped that Mears would be able to support the church by redecorating the ground floor and giving it a new lease of life. Mears staff in North Lanarkshire were only too happy to help.In June Mears Painter Derek Ross and Apprentice Painter Scott Carruthers (pictured) spent three and a half days redecorating the ground floor. They knew how important it was to do a fantastic job as the church plays a vital role in the community as it is used by many different groups including Guides, Brownies, the Bellshill Probus Club and the Carpet Bowling Club. Once the painting was completed everyone was pleased with the result and felt that it had made the church brighter and more inviting.Mr Cook, Session Clerk of the McDonald Memorial Church said:"On behalf of the congregation I would like to express my sincere thanks to Mears and their staff for the excellent work which has been carried out to the interior of our church. The redecoration of the interior has completely transformed the appearance of the church and both young and old are delighted, everyone has commented on the quality of the workmanship. We are indebted to Mears for their help and kindness.”On Thursday 10 July Councillors James Coyle, Harry McGuigan, David Baird and Frank McNally visited the church to see the transformation. They met with Mr Cook and Drew Aitken, Church Property Convener. Mears was represented by Willie Docherty, Managing Director; Steve Kelly Business Director; Mick Farrell, Union Convener as well as Derek Ross and Scott Carruthers.Willie Docherty Managing Director, Mears said: “As a business we are committed to supporting our local communities and developing our apprentices. The chance to redecorate the McDonald Memorial Church gave us a perfect opportunity to support our local community and provide one of our apprentices with valuable experience.
