I’m from Kent but during my 23 years of service I ended up in Faselane in Scotland. Once I left the service, I found myself at Mears and it’s been great. I’ve learned a lot and picked up so many new skills because my job requires such variety, from basic electrician skills, to general maintenance, to working in the plant rooms.”“My job at St Andrews is to look after the general maintenance of the hospital, such as gas, electricity, medical gas, the grounds and plumbing. This includes completing tests and checks on a regular basis. We don’t look after any of the medical machines, although I do assist in repairing waste disposal units, which I’ve had special training for. I generally spend a lot of time doing responsive repairs such as fixing lights, windows and cupboards”“Some weekends I’m on duty with the Coast Guard. I get called out to attend things like missing person searches and cliff rescues.”“Working for Mears is perfect as I am able to use the skills I developed in the Royal Navy, learn new ones and they support me with my work with the Coast Guard.”
