Mears, who provides home care and support services to over 450 people living in Kirklees, Leeds, Barnsley and Wakefield, has been awarded full marks by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the body that inspects and regulates care services in England.
Mears, who provides home care and support services to over 450 people living in Kirklees, Leeds, Barnsley and Wakefield, has been awarded full marks by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the body that inspects and regulates care services in England.

As part of an inspection, the CQC assessed the local team of 160 care workers providing home care services, rehabilitation and supported living to people of all ages and abilities. They found that Mears was providing high standards of care and welfare to people who receive care support, to enable them to live independently in their own homes. They are provided with individual care plans and receive assistance in accordance with their needs and preferences.

After the CQC observed how people were cared for by looking at records and speaking with staff, service users and their families, they reported that Mears provided a quality service by meeting essential standards. Mears passed all of the five standards inspected which were care and welfare of people who use the services, safeguarding people, management of medicines, assessing and monitoring the quality of service provision and record keeping.

Everyone had positive comments about the standard of care and support they received from Mears, scoring the service at least an eight of out 10, and can enjoy independent living, knowing they have the support they needed to keep them safe and well.

During the assessment a person receiving care said: "The carers are absolutely wonderful", whilst one reported "Staff know what they are doing". Another said: "I feel listened to. The staff are wonderful. We are very fortunate, we get lovely carers."

Linda Brunt, Manager of Mears, Kirklees, said:

"I am delighted that we have passed the inspection which is a testament to the dedication of the Mears team who work hard to deliver care and welfare tailored to individual needs. As a recognised quality home care provider means that we will continue to deliver excellent personalised care to support people in their own homes."
