Mears sends packages to troops in Afghanistan

Soldiers serving in Afghanistan have been receiving care packages thanks to Mears, a provider of home care and support services to over 450 people living in Kings Lynn and surrounding areas.

Since January, staff and service users have been collecting tea, coffee, biscuits, toiletries and snacks to fill packages that they regularly send to soldiers serving on 2 Squadron from RAF Marham, the oldest fixed wing flying Squadron in the world.

The idea to collect and send the boxes was initiated by Penelope Ahmed, Care Co-ordinator at Mears, whose son-in-law Cpl Bentley is currently serving on 2 Squadron in Afghanistan.

The boxes are sent to Cpl Bentley who places them in a common area so everyone can dig in and enjoy.

Penelope said: "I would like to thank everyone who has supported the troops by contributing to the Mears packages and making a difference to people in our community who are serving our country. I received a message from my son-in-law to say thank you on behalf the Squadron who are so pleased to receive the packages and really appreciate that we are thinking of them."

If you would like to contribute to packages for the troops, please contact Penelope Ahmed on penelope.ahmed@mearsgroup.co.uk.
