Mears wins Business in the Community Award

In a glittering ceremony on Saturday 1 November at The Theatre Royal, Mears Brighton scooped the Business in the Community Award at the Brighton Argus Community Stars Awards 2014. The award acknowledged the innovation, creativity and sustained commitment to corporate social responsibility Mears has displayed in Sussex.The award was given to Mears in acknowledgement of the vital role that they play within the community by supporting a wide range of projects and organisations.James Cryer, Mears Branch Manager said: “Mearsisgreatly honoured to have won the Business in the Community Award. It's great to see our staff recognised for all the hard work and dedication they put into our community projects.”“In the last year we have rewired the Brighton Sea Cadet Unit, refurbished the Bevendean Primary School Nature Garden, fitted a new kitchen at the JAVA Community Cafe in Woodingdean, sponsored local sports teams, carried out repairs to the Brighton Ronald McDonald House and held a race day raising £5,000 to support the development of children at City Academy Whitehawk.“We were also delighted to see the Waste House win another award where our staff and apprentices played a major role in the build alongside Brighton University and City College. This project has involved and inspired hundreds of young people in the city.“We would like to thank everyone who nominated Mears and we look forward to carrying out many more exciting community projects in Brighton and Hove in future years.”
