Mears has successfully handed over our second scheme for Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, at Garden Avenue in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. The properties are some of the first council homes to be built in the borough for 25 years and follow the delivery of our sister project with the council, at Furzen Crescent, Hatfield. The former brownfield site had a number of challenges in terms of access and limited logistical space, significant foundation requirements and due to the in-fill nature of the site and surrounding resident and community issues, a great focus was placed on minimising disruption and impact on our neighbours.
The scheme comprises two blocks, consisting of fourteen two bedroom apartments and eight one bedroom apartments. All of the properties have been let to local residents on a social rent basis. The flats include a range of energy-saving features and provide much-needed affordable homes for residents on the council’s housing register.
