TPAS Excellence in Contractor Engagement award win

A partnership between Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC) and Mears has scooped the award for ‘Excellence in Contractor Engagement’ at the Northern TPAS Awards in Manchester.TPAS (Tenants Participation Advisory Service), England’s leading tenant engagement experts, recognises compelling and inspirational success stories of tenants, landlords and contractors working together.RMBC and Mears won the Excellence in Contractor Engagement category for a specialist housing project to build four new homes for tenants with physical disabilities. The purpose-built houses incorporate special adaptations to meet specific needs, helping tenants live more independently.The development is named Brayshaw Bungalows in memory of John Brayshaw, RMBC Contract and Service Development Manager, who had the idea to use the partnership between RMBC and Mears to provide a lasting legacy for the town.Mears General Manager, Andy Chambers, said: “The success of this project is testament to the hard work of everyone involved, but more importantly to the vision of John Brayshaw. It is fantastic for the success of the partnership to be recognised for building much needed new local authority homes and improving the lives of families in Rotherham.”RMBC Assistant Director Housing and Neighbourhood Services, Tom Bell, said: “Winning this award in partnership with Mears is a fantastic achievement. We have a joint commitment to improving the lives of Rotherham Council tenants and this is a great example of working together creatively to increase the availability of our housing stock. By providing purpose-built accommodation we are helping tenants to live more independently and have a better quality of life – well done to all involved.”
