Brighton and Hove City Council Home Improvement Agency
Mears and Brighton; Improving lives together
Working with homeowners and those in privately rented property our Home Improvement Agency presently provides a core service to support older and/or disabled people through the disabled facility grant process.
The service offers full casework support, the production of technical drawings and plans and delivering both minor and major adaptations utilising a schedule of rates through a framework of preferred contractors procured by Brighton and Hove City Council. As a key part of the service we also provide Housing options advice and practical support to those people where a home move is the most appropriate solution.
Nature of the Service
- Level access showers
- Stair lifts
- Through floor lifts
- Door widening
- Provide access to advice
Our strong partnership working has enabled us to work creatively with Brighton and Hove City Council to deliver a low cost, high volume and extremely efficient service delivering the new discretionary DFG Housing policy, which has been recognised by Care & Repair England & Centre for Ageing Better (October 2018) as a good practice example, one of only 24 up and down the country.
The branch team consists of a General Manager, 2 Caseworkers, 2 Technical Officers and 1 Administrator. All staff are trained to be able to input into and support all job roles within the Branch, this ensures that a consistent service can be provided at all times
